Two Minutes With… Kirstie Sheridan

Describe your remit and responsibilities as Finance Assistant?

My job involves a range of responsibilities, from overseeing the cash paid in and out of the banks to reconciling transfers in the system, processing asset purchase payments and analysing company credit cards, as well as month-end preparation work along with balance sheet reconciliations. I do love a bit of investigation so I am normally asked to get my Sherlock hat on and help out with queries.

What do you enjoy most about working for Asset Alliance Group?

I love to learn new things to further my knowledge of the business, the systems and how everything links together. Working in Finance comes with its challenges and allows me to test myself on a daily basis, helping me to grow as a person and prove that if I set my mind to something, I can achieve it.

What’s the best thing about your team/department?

Newmains is a very small office, and so in Finance we all pull together as a family. Everyone is there to support one another and we always try to have a laugh, even through stressful situations!

Can you offer an example of the positive company culture at AAG and supportive management?

When I first joined the business just over five years ago, I had an AAT Accounting Qualification and I was unsure what was in store for my accounting career. AAG gave me the push I needed and has helped further my career by supporting me through my ACCA qualification. Last year I achieved the ACCA Diploma in Accounting & Business and I’m still continuing to work through ACCA with the end goal being a Chartered Accountant. AAG has allowed me to gain the knowledge and experience through my current role and I am continually grateful for its ongoing support.

Who or what inspires you in your day-to-day work?

I class AAG as my ‘work family’. Everyone mucks in during times of need. From the huge change through Covid to adapting to new IT systems and everything in-between, we just become bigger and better every year, tackling each challenge head on. It’s truly inspiring to see the company continuing to grow and I’m grateful to be able to experience the journey it’s on.

Describe yourself in five words?

Dependable, trustworthy, ambitious, silly… and ginger!

Who is your role model or hero outside work, and why?

100% my mum. She’s worked relentlessly in her career to get to where she is and always stood up for what she believed in. She is so determined and her hard work and motivation has paid off for her. She always believes in me and is my biggest supporter and cheerleader. If I turn into her, or even half the woman she is, I’ll consider my life a successful one.

Describe your perfect day off, what do you like to do?

My husband Corey and I love to travel and see as much of the world as we can, so I always have at least one holiday booked to look forward to each year, and it’s usually somewhere different. When I’m not jet setting, I like to go swimming or out shopping, or meet up with friends. I also love a trip through to my hometown of Peebles to visit my grandparents, where there is usually home baking on the go. However, most of my spare time at the moment is spent with my head buried in a study book!
