Two Minutes With… Simon Hodge

Describe your remit and responsibilities as a Credit Controller?

My role is to collect all outstanding and overdue invoices, ensuring customers pay on time, and to escalate customer accounts who have fallen behind and may need further action taking against them. I’m also responsible for ensuring the company’s bad debt is at its lowest level possible so we can maximise profit and minimise loss.

What do you enjoy most about working for Asset Alliance Group?

The best part is the colleagues I work with who are from all different walks of life and different cultures; it’s great to get to meet and work with lots of new and amazing people. I am also proud to work for a company that is really passionate about helping its employees achieve their goals and invests time and money in helping us to achieve them.

What’s the best thing about your team/department?

Credit Control plays a huge part within AAG. We are made up of seven incredible individuals who all strive to help one another to achieve our goals and KPIs whatever challenges are thrown our way. You know that if you are struggling or having a bad day, the rest of the team will rally around to help you, make you feel good and fill you with happiness and positivity. I couldn’t ask for a better team to be part of.

Can you offer an example of the positive company culture at AAG and supportive management?

Being part of AAG’s Employee Champions Group, our aim is to bring positivity, spread awareness of staff benefits, promote wellbeing and good mental health, as well as helping to raise money for charity. But it goes beyond this, as management at all levels are really engaged and supportive of what we do and our ideas to try and make working life and the culture at AAG even better than it already is.

Who or what inspires you in your day to day work?

It’s the colleagues I work with who inspire me. We all work incredibly hard every day but everyone is really supportive of each other and never afraid to help someone out and offer helpful advice. Those who are more experienced or more senior are always willing to give their time to help new staff members and support other colleagues and that to me is really inspirational.

Describe yourself in five words?

Determined, focused, joker, supportive and loyal.

Who is your role model or hero outside work, and why?

It’s the American endurance athlete David Goggins. He is simply the definition of ‘never give up’. His will and determination and refusal to quit in everything he does to achieve his goals is truly admirable. He has this drive and passion for success in life that is out of this world. One of my favourite quotes of his is: ‘You are in danger of living a life so comfortable and soft that you will die without ever realising your true potential.’

Describe your perfect day off, what do you like to do?

It would be either working out or being with my horses Whisky and Chief. As a keen horse rider, they take up most of my time and I’m usually there until late most nights and often competing at weekends, so spending time with them –even though they cost me a fortune – they make me feel relaxed, happy and loved and it’s the perfect way to enjoy a day off.
