Find out more about our leasing and financing options for rigid trucks.
Reefer trucks, or refrigerated rigid trucks, provide secure temperature-controlled transport for perishables, pharmaceuticals or food items. A built-in refrigeration unit and insulated hull maintain chilled, frozen or multi-temperature zones, ensuring cargo remains within critical temperature tolerances to protect product quality and reduce spoilage risk. These trucks also offer good manoeuvrability and easier weight distribution compared to large articulated trailers, making them ideal for both urban operations and regional routes.
Our range includes various types of refrigerated trucks from market-leading manufacturers. Choose from different gross weights (e.g. 7.5-tonne, 18-tonne up to 26-tonne), box lengths, single or multi-compartment units, manual or automatic transmission, and optional tail lifts. Refrigeration units are capable of holding temperatures from chilled (around +2-5 °C) to frozen (−18 °C or lower), depending on build and specification.

They combine powerful refrigeration or cooling units with insulated walls, ceilings and floors. Air is circulated inside the box via the refrigeration unit, maintaining a set internal temperature. Proper sealing, insulation, and unit performance are essential to preventing external heat ingress and internal temperature fluctuations.
Depending on specification, they can typically hold chilled temperatures (around +2 °C to +5 °C) or frozen temperatures (often −18 °C or lower). Some units offer multi-zone capability to carry mixed cargo types.
Your required temperature range; whether you need multi-compartment units; payload vs insulation trade-off; the reliability and maintenance history of the refrigeration unit; type of doors/tail-lift for loading; fuel consumption; and regulatory hygiene standards (especially for food & pharma).
Perishable food (meat, dairy, fruit, vegetables), pharmaceuticals, flowers and catering products are best suited. Cargo that is not suitable includes items that are moisture sensitive but cannot tolerate cold; fragile items easily damaged by flowing cooling; or any product requiring ambient temperature (unless you can tightly seal and control conditions).
Yes. Transporting temperature-sensitive goods in the UK is subject to food safety and hygiene legislation. Goods must be kept within specified temperature ranges, equipment must be clean and capable of maintaining those temperatures, and you may need recording or monitoring of temperatures during transport (e.g. for proof of cold chain compliance for pharmaceuticals or perishable foods).
