Two Minutes With… Stewart Cooper

Describe your responsibilities as Business Development Executive

Having joined Asset Alliance Group (AAG) towards the end of last year my focus has primarily been on developing the strategy for the Vendor Finance Division. This has involved identifying opportunities, understanding the relevant sectors, and supporting the team in growing strong long-term relationships. I have taken on some key relationships, which are seen as close partnerships, specifically in the specialist sector. I provide regular analytical reports on internal and external issues to identify where efficiencies can be made, and to help inform the business when making strategic decisions.

What do you enjoy most about working for AAG?

I really enjoy the empowerment and the confidence I have gained from the top down. Having the belief from my management team that my contributions are valued really goes a long way, and I typically end my working week with the feeling that I have achieved something.

What’s the best thing about your team?

The best thing about my team is their willingness to help and go that extra mile for each other. Whether job pressures or something outside of work, we can all have a lot on our plate at certain points. It doesn’t matter what job title each member has, we all get stuck in and act as one. Seeing it firsthand, it’s reassuring to know that my team are there if needed.

Can you offer an example of the positive company culture?

Experiencing our business wide conference recently, where we all come together in one place, has accelerated my sense of belonging. Taking time to reflect on the past year and focus on what is ahead, whilst getting to know colleagues better out of the day-to-day environment, is something you don’t get everywhere. Having only been here just over six months, I already feel settled and truly feel that I fit in.

What has been your biggest learning?

My biggest learning so far has been gaining an understanding of the complexity of the business, and how the different markets we operate in need to be catered for. Whether it’s vendors, corporates or smaller sized end users, each client has a different requirement and way of working. I’ve learnt the importance of being adaptable to ensure that we arrive at the right result.

Describe yourself in three words.

Driven, genuine, fun.

Who is your role model or hero outside of work, and why?

My role model in life is my father. Growing up in a business family, I’ve always been surrounded by hard work, with a touch of fun along the way. I admire his determination to succeed and ability to overcome challenges. We share a passion for sport, which he got me into. While we don’t follow the same football team, I would consider it a success if I followed a similar career trajectory to his.

Describe your perfect day off, what do you like to do?

My perfect day off consists of a 6am wake up (no lie-ins for me) for a 7:30am tee off with the guys, and four hours of playing golf and banter. Followed by a trip down to the Gtech Community Stadium to watch Brentford Football Club. Ending with a medium-rare steak and a whatever series I’m binge watching. What more could you wish for?
